Zegna Takes Menswear by Storm with Avant-Garde Collection

Zegna, the legendary Italian fashion house, has taken the menswear world by storm with its latest collection. Designed by creative director Alessandro Sartori, the collection was unveiled at the grand Allianz MiCo, Europe’s largest conference center. The show not only showcased innovative designs but also highlighted Zegna’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of menswear.

The venue itself perfectly complemented the avant-garde designs featured in the show. With its futuristic surroundings, the Allianz MiCo created an immersive experience for the audience. As the models walked down the runway, it was clear that Zegna was ushering in a new era of menswear.

Despite the challenges facing the Italian economy, Zegna’s collection exuded confidence and sophistication. The brand’s impeccable tailoring, which it has been known for, still played a significant role. However, Sartori successfully transformed Zegna’s aesthetic to cater to the demand for high-end casual luxury. The work jackets and outer shirts stole the show with their patch pockets, wide sleeves, and generous proportions. The clever addition of detachable collars, made from rawhide or stiff felt, added a sharp finish to the jawline. Removing the collar transformed the jacket into a gilet, allowing for effortless layering.

The trousers in the collection were crafted with wide legs and double pin-tucked seams, maintaining their impeccable shape. The color palette was equally striking, featuring a range of hues from ice and butter to burnt orange and asphalt. Among the standout pieces were the coats, including a sweeping Raglan-sleeved town coat and a padded cashmere coat with a suede-like textured interior.

Sartori’s focus on natural materials was evident throughout the collection. From washed and treated fabrics to quilted and upcycled cashmere, Zegna showcased its commitment to sustainability. Layering also played a key role, with ribbed sweaters paired with lightweight peacoats layered over Henleys.

The casting for the show was diverse, featuring both male and female models. Renowned actors such as Zegna ambassador Mads Mikkelsen and newcomer Michael Fassbender also graced the runway. Fassbender, exuding effortless coolness, donned a volume coat in a pale cement hue that perfectly captured the essence of the collection.

The show was further elevated by a custom-made soundtrack by British producer James Blake, creating an immersive experience for the audience.

As Sartori took his final bow, he was met with thunderous applause led by Mikkelsen and supported by Fassbender. Sartori, who revolutionized menswear with his cutting techniques twenty years ago, has once again set the fashion agenda with Zegna’s Oasi collection. With Milan’s menswear season coming to a close, all eyes are now turning to Paris, eagerly awaiting the next chapter in the evolution of menswear.
