Zalando Expands into Luxury Clothing Sector

Zalando, the leading online fashion retailer in Europe, is making a bold move into the luxury clothing sector. The company plans to expand its Premium range, doubling its offerings by 2023. By introducing renowned luxury brands such as Moschino Couture, Alexander McQueen, Versace, and Alberta Ferretti, Zalando aims to compete with other multi-brand e-retailers that cater to this niche market, like Net A Porter.

Lena-Sophie Röper, the Director of Premium & Luxury Purchasing at Zalando, highlights the rapid growth of the Premium segment within the company. By venturing into the high-end premium profile, Zalando is working towards its goal of becoming the go-to destination for fashion, taking advantage of the potential of the online premium market in Europe. Röper also shares that premium sales on the platform have already seen an impressive increase of 35%.

This strategic move by Zalando is backed by the growing trend of online purchases of high-value products, particularly witnessed among Generations Y and Z, who are active users of the platform. David Schneider, Co-CEO of Zalando, recognizes that the younger customer base enjoys the versatility of mixing streetwear brands with sportswear and designer pieces.

In addition to expanding its Premium range, Zalando has exciting plans to launch a secondhand fashion buying and selling offering, set to be available from the third quarter of this year. This move aligns with the increasing demand for sustainable fashion and reflects Zalando’s commitment to environmental responsibility.
