Yves Saint Laurent at the Museums

To celebrate the momentous 60th anniversary of Yves Saint Laurent’s inaugural fashion show bearing his own name, six esteemed museums in Paris have come together to pay tribute to the legendary fashion designer. From January 29 to May 15, 2022, a series of exhibitions will be organized as part of the cultural program titled “Yves Saint Laurent at the Museums,” serving as a remarkable homage to the influential figure.

It was on January 29, 1962, that Yves Saint Laurent unveiled his very first collection under his eponymous brand in the fashion capital of Paris. Now, six decades later, the Pierre Bergé – Yves Saint Laurent Foundation is collaborating with various cultural institutions to present “Yves Saint Laurent at the Museums.” This initiative consists of six retrospectives, carefully curated by Madison Cox, Stephan Janson, and Mouna Mekouar.

Each participating museum will focus on a distinct aspect of Yves Saint Laurent’s life and work, shedding light on different facets of his profound influence. The Centre Pompidou will celebrate the couturier as a witness to the evolution of artistic creation in the 20th century. The Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris will explore his close relationship with the arts. The Musée National Picasso-Paris will honor the influences of Picasso on Yves Saint Laurent’s unparalleled creations. The Musée d’Orsay will pay homage to the impact of Marcel Proust on the designer’s artistic vision. Additionally, the Louvre Museum will highlight Yves Saint Laurent’s connection to light and decorative arts, while the Yves Saint Laurent Museum will showcase a carefully curated selection of archival pieces, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the designer’s captivating journey.

Through these six remarkable events, the program aims to commemorate all the diverse aspects of Yves Saint Laurent’s illustrious career, creating an immersive and enlightening journey that encourages new forms of dialogue and appreciation.

This extraordinary cultural initiative adds to an already prolific “luxury” agenda, featuring notable exhibitions such as the Thierry Mugler exhibition at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, Jean Paul Gaultier’s “CinéMode” showcase, “Dior en roses” in Granville, and an exploration of Cartier’s influence on Islamic arts. These exhibitions provide invaluable opportunities for individuals to delve into the rich history and artistic contributions of renowned figures in the world of fashion and luxury.
