YouTube Fashion: A New Universe for Fashion and Beauty Content

A new YouTube universe exclusively dedicated to fashion, beauty, and luxury has officially launched. The platform, called YouTube Fashion, aims to cater to the insatiable demand for fashion and beauty content on the popular video-sharing site. The number of Fashion & Beauty channels on YouTube has multiplied by six between 2014 and 2018, generating billions of views in the past year alone, according to Derek Blasberg, the head of YouTube’s fashion and beauty division.

YouTube Fashion was unveiled on September 5, 2019, joining the ranks of existing vertical platforms dedicated to movies, video games, and news. The main goal of the platform is to gather all fashion and beauty-related content in one place, making it easier for consumers to access the latest videos and tutorials. This move is not only beneficial for fashion enthusiasts but also for YouTube, as fashion and beauty videos have already generated billions of views and revenue for the platform.

The launch of YouTube Fashion also signifies the competition between YouTube and Instagram’s IGTV, which offer similar long-format videos. By creating a dedicated fashion and beauty hub, YouTube aims to establish itself as a go-to platform for style content, challenging the dominance of Instagram in this sector.

The platform offers a wide range of content, from makeup tutorials to backstage access during fashion shows. YouTube has collaborated with major fashion houses such as Dior, Alexander Wang, and Louis Vuitton to create captivating fashion-focused videos. This new platform has arrived just in time for the summer Fashion Weeks in New York, London, Milan, and Paris. Fashion enthusiasts can now immerse themselves in the fashion shows and connect with industry professionals and content creators through their screens.

Derek Blasberg expressed his excitement about YouTube Fashion, stating that it aims to connect the traditional fashion and beauty worlds with the platform’s community of creators. The ultimate goal is to inspire and provide style content to everyone seeking fashion and beauty inspiration. Although the service is currently only available in English, international expansion is expected in 2020.
