Yiqing Yin Steps Down as Artistic Director of Poiret

Yiqing Yin, the talented French fashion designer, who catapulted Poiret back into the spotlight with her stunning debut runway show in March 2018, has made the unexpected decision to step down from her role as the artistic director of the renowned womenswear brand. With a rich history dating back to its founding by Paul Poiret in 1903, Poiret had experienced a period of dormancy before being revived under the ownership of Korean company Shinsegae in 2015.

Yin was handpicked by Shinsegae to infuse a fresh perspective and modern sensibility into Poiret, a task she successfully accomplished with her Autumn/Winter 2018-19 collections. Drawing inspiration from the brand’s rich heritage, she skillfully incorporated oriental motifs and received high praise for her innovative approach to reinterpreting Poiret’s iconic codes on the runway.

Despite Yin’s significant contributions and successful shows, Poiret has announced her departure without providing insight into the reasons behind the decision. Moreover, there is uncertainty surrounding the brand’s plans for the upcoming season, including whether a runway show will take place next March.

As Yin bids farewell to Poiret, the brand will be guided by Anne Chapelle, a seasoned Belgian entrepreneur who has assumed the role of CEO. With a track record of steering brands like Ann Demeulemeester and Haider Ackermann towards success, Chapelle now holds the reins of Poiret’s future trajectory, promising a continued commitment to honoring its storied legacy.
