Whimsical and Simplistic Charm at Paris Fashion Week

Paris Fashion Week is well underway, highlighting the latest collections from top designers in the industry. On the third day of this prestigious event, renowned designers such as Dries Van Noten and Paco Rabanne graced the stage. The day also marked the public opening of Jacquemus’ immersive pop-up at Galeries Lafayette. However, it was the enchanting and minimalist designs of Cecilie Bahnsen, Acne Studios, and Litkovska that truly stole the audience’s attention.

Cecilie Bahnsen, a Danish label, began their fashion show with an elegant pastel pink envelope, bearing each guest’s name in delicately written italics. This initial gesture set the tone for the collection, which showcased various shades of pink. Held at the iconic Palais de Tokyo in Paris, the entire fashion show exuded an ethereal ambiance. White smoke enveloped the venue, creating a dreamlike atmosphere, while live music performed by Suki played in the background. The collection, named “Untitled (Pink, White, Red, Red, Red),” beautifully conveyed the brand’s intimate character and deep appreciation for Paris as the home of couture. Founder and designer Cecilie Bahnsen aimed to capture creative and emotional expression through a musical performance, describing this collection as her “most mature and feminine” work to date. The runway featured the brand’s signature voluminous, asymmetrically cut dresses, alongside exciting denim experimentation and collaborations with Asics and Mackintosh.

Acne Studios, a Swedish brand, chose a different approach by transforming the Lycée Carnot into a dark, enchanted forest. The venue was adorned with volcanic-like black stones, entangled vines, and shimmering crystals, creating a truly magical atmosphere. The collection beautifully reflected this mystical environment, with models donning dresses made of leaves, low-waisted skirts, layered ensembles, and tops inspired by foliage. Coats and trench coats in wide, wrap-around shapes provided protection against the unknown forest, while leather silhouettes added strength to the brand’s interpretation of nature-inspired creatures. Unique details like three-dimensional flower appliqués, frayed knitwear, and lace-up prints added an exquisite touch to the collection. Showcasing neon yellow and turquoise dresses, the brand introduced vibrant pops of color, complementing the fantastical forest-inspired theme.

Litkovska, a Ukrainian label founded by designer Lili Litkovska, made a remarkable return to Paris Fashion Week. Just a year ago, Litkovska escaped the war in Ukraine and presented her collection by displaying a single large Ukrainian flag and QR codes, promoting the work of her colleagues. This year, the brand staged a captivating show at the iconic Le Grand Rex cinema and showroom. The collection, titled “On Air,” stood as an “ode to resilience” and flawlessly showcased Litkovska’s signature layering and oversized pieces. The collection saw traditional tailoring intertwined with unique patterns and fabrics, resulting in striking contrasts within blazers, waistcoats, and skirts. With a subdued color palette complemented by hints of powdered pink, electric blue, and scarlet red, Litkovska’s brand effectively communicated resilience and love through her exceptional designs.

In summary, Cecilie Bahnsen, Acne Studios, and Litkovska brought a whimsical and simplistic charm to Paris Fashion Week. These designers expertly showcased their distinctive visions and creativity, leaving an enduring impression on all those in attendance. As Paris Fashion Week continues, fashion enthusiasts eagerly anticipate the surprises that await from the remaining designers.
