Walpole Launches British Luxury Sustainability Manifesto

Walpole, a renowned organization representing more than 270 prestigious brands in the British luxury sector, recently made headlines with the launch of its sustainability manifesto. The initiative, unveiled during the annual CEO and chairman dinner, serves as a guiding light for members as they navigate towards a greener and more environmentally conscious future.

Among the prominent attendees at the event were luxury powerhouses like Burberry, Dunhill, Harrods, Johnstons of Elgin, and Mulberry. Walpole CEO Helen Brocklebank stressed the importance of sustainability in achieving growth targets within the industry. With Millennials and GenZ consumers placing a premium on ethically sourced products, the manifesto seeks to embed sustainability into the DNA of every brand’s operations.

Drawing inspiration from the UN Sustainability Goals, the manifesto is underpinned by four fundamental principles, including the promotion of a circular economy and the preservation of natural resources. Walpole is calling on its members to implement sustainable practices such as utilizing reusable or recyclable packaging, reducing water usage, and ensuring transparency in their supply chains by 2030.

Pam Batty, the vice president of Corporate Responsibility at Burberry, underscored the necessity of collaboration within the luxury sector to safeguard the environment and support workers across supply chains. She lauded Walpole’s British Luxury Sustainability Manifesto for its potential to drive systemic change and foster a more sustainable future for the industry.

In a global landscape increasingly defined by the imperative of sustainability, the luxury sector is stepping up to embrace eco-conscious practices. Walpole’s sustainability manifesto represents a significant step forward in cultivating a more environmentally aware and socially responsible luxury industry. Through collective action and unwavering commitment to sustainable objectives, British luxury brands are well-positioned to lead the charge towards a greener and more ethical tomorrow.
