Vin + Omi Collaborate with Prince Charles for Eco-Friendly Fashion at London Fashion Week

Vin + Omi, the sustainable fashion brand known for their unique approach to design, has joined forces with an unexpected partner for their upcoming collection debut at London Fashion Week in September. None other than Prince Charles, the future monarch of the UK, has had a hand in creating this eco-friendly range. Utilizing materials sourced from nettles found on the prince’s very own Highgrove estate, the collection will be unveiled at the exclusive Sting at The Savoy event in partnership with the hotel’s sustainability program.

The textile used in the creation of these dresses has been described by the designers as having a luxurious feel, similar to that of alpaca or cashmere. The collaboration between Vin + Omi and Prince Charles blossomed from a conversation at a Positive Fashion Initiative event last year, where the concept of incorporating nettles into clothing was first floated. This led to an invitation for the designers to visit Highgrove, where they were able to gather 3,000 nettles to be transformed into a fabric boasting a delicate, ethereal quality.

Vin + Omi, celebrated for their avant-garde style, were pleasantly surprised to be welcomed into the prestigious setting of Highgrove, given their punk-inspired roots. The decision to utilize nettles as a primary material is not only a bold fashion statement, but also a testament to the brand’s dedication to promoting sustainability and ecological awareness within the industry. By repurposing a natural waste product like nettles, the designers aim to ignite conversations about the importance of adopting more environmentally conscious practices in fashion.

Backed by the support and active involvement of Prince Charles himself, the collaborative project is poised to make waves at London Fashion Week. The esteemed V&A museum in London has already expressed interest in acquiring a piece from this groundbreaking collection for their archives, acknowledging the exceptional significance of this partnership and the innovative use of materials in the realm of fashion.
