Renowned designers Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren, better known as Viktor & Rolf, have recently announced the discontinuation of their ready-to-wear line. The Dutch fashion duo, who founded their brand in 1993, will now solely focus on their haute couture collection and fragrances. This move follows in the footsteps of Jean Paul Gaultier’s decision to cease his ready-to-wear production last September.
Viktor & Rolf initially debuted their haute couture collection in 1998 and later ventured into the ready-to-wear market in 2000. However, after almost 15 years of producing women’s ready-to-wear, the designers will present their final line for the fall-winter 2015/16 season. The collection will not be showcased during Paris Fashion Week nor featured in a runway show.
In addition to discontinuing their ready-to-wear line, the brand’s flagship store located at 370 rue Saint-Honoré will close its doors in January 2016. This decision reflects the designers’ desire to refocus on their creative passions and express their unique style and inspirations through haute couture.
Viktor and Rolf share their excitement about exploring new avenues and pushing the boundaries of their vision. The intense demands of the ready-to-wear industry have played a significant role in their decision, as it often restricts their creative freedom. By discontinuing this line, they aim to give themselves more time and freedom to explore uncharted territories.
The main shareholder of the Viktor & Rolf brand, Renzo Rosso, fully supports this strategic move, believing it will enhance the couture house’s luxurious positioning. The brand will continue its fragrance activities alongside the haute couture collections, further expanding their creative reach.
