Victoria & Albert Museum extends ‘Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams’ exhibition

Due to an overwhelming number of visitors, the Victoria & Albert Museum in London has decided to extend the “Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams” exhibition. This retrospective, which previously had a successful run at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, is now experiencing similar success in London. Since its opening on February 1st, the exhibition has already welcomed over 121,500 curious visitors, surpassing the institution’s expectations.

In response to the high demand, the museum’s management made the decision to extend the exhibition by an additional seven weeks. Originally set to close on July 14th, it will now run until September 1st. This extension aims to accommodate the growing number of visitors, particularly during the summer season when tourism is at its peak.

Not only is “Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams” the largest retrospective dedicated to the couturier in the UK, but it is also the inaugural event held in the newly renovated Sainsbury Gallery. This exhibition offers a deep exploration into Dior’s life and work through an extensive collection of over 500 unseen pieces and documents. Additionally, it includes a special “Dior in Britain” module that focuses on the designer’s unique relationship with the United Kingdom.

It is worth noting that the Victoria & Albert Museum’s attendance record is currently held by the “Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty” exhibition, which attracted a staggering 493,043 visitors during its 21-week run in 2015, five years after the designer’s untimely death.
