Veuve Clicquot Celebrates Women in Business

Inspired by the remarkable career of Madame Clicquot, the renowned champagne house Veuve Clicquot has recently unveiled a series of captivating statistics related to women in business. In an unprecedented event held on June 11th, the champagne house brought together nearly twenty influential female figures on stage to share their unique approaches to entrepreneurship. The guest list included notable personalities such as Hélène Boulet-Supau, co-founder of Sarenza; comedian Nora Hamzaoui; Sarah Poniatowski-Lavoine, founder of Maison Sarah Lavoine; and tennis champion Venus Williams.

This event not only provided a platform for these inspiring women to share their insights but also marked the release of the first set of figures from Veuve Clicquot’s international Barometer. Conducted by Market Probe and analyzed by BETC Corporate, this study gathered responses from a panel of 10,171 individuals across France, the United Kingdom, Japan, Hong Kong, and South Africa.

One of the key findings from the study is that 91% of aspiring women entrepreneurs feel inspired by their female peers. However, only a mere 12% of them could name a successful female entrepreneur. In France, 28% of respondents expressed a desire to become entrepreneurs, compared to 39% of men. The study suggests that this difference may be attributed to women’s concerns about the negative impact of entrepreneurship on their family life, as they struggle with finding a balance between work and personal commitments.

Another alarming statistic revealed by the study is that 72% of French women entrepreneurs believe they need to exert more authority than their male counterparts to earn respect. Additionally, 41% of aspiring female entrepreneurs feel that men are more likely to be perceived as credible during fundraising activities. These figures highlight the need for a more supportive environment for women in business.

On a global scale, 80% of respondents expressed the crucial need for a strong female network to succeed in entrepreneurship. Veuve Clicquot recognizes this need and aims to encourage women to play an active role, transitioning from being mere Role Models to becoming Role Makers.

The Veuve Clicquot Businesswoman of the Year Award, established in 1972, is a testament to the champagne house’s commitment to recognizing and rewarding the entrepreneurial spirit of exceptional women. Madame Clicquot, who took over her late husband’s champagne company at the age of 27 in 1805, serves as a powerful inspiration for this prestigious award. The accolade has since honored over 350 remarkable women, with last year’s recipient being Nathalie Balla, co-President and co-Shareholder of La Redoute.

Applications for this esteemed award are open until June 30th, offering aspiring women entrepreneurs a chance to showcase their success, entrepreneurial spirit, and societal contributions. More details and the registration process can be found here.
