Vestiaire Collective’s Most Successful Brands and Predictions for 2020

The online luxury resale specialist, Vestiaire Collective, recently released its ranking of the most successful brands on its platform in 2019. Topping the list is Gucci, with a 30% growth in sales on Vestiaire Collective. The Italian brand, led by artistic director Alessandro Michele, takes first place on the 2019 podium. Following closely behind is Louis Vuitton, which was recently named the most powerful brand of 2020 by the BrandZ France ranking. Prada, Dior, and Hermès round out the top brands.

Unsurprisingly, bags are the most in-demand items on the platform. Within the top eight best-selling items, six are bag models. This includes Gucci’s Marmont bag, Fendi’s Baguette, which has been reinterpreted in a surprising scented version, and Dior’s Saddle bag, which has experienced a resurgence in popularity since its launch in 1999. Three Louis Vuitton models – the Speedy, the Neverfull, and a pouch – are also featured in the ranking, along with the timeless Hermès scarf and Balenciaga’s Dad Shoes Triple S.

Looking ahead to 2020, Vestiaire Collective predicts a continued appetite for vintage pieces that are “unique and steeped in history.” The platform also anticipates a rise in demand for affordable watches from promising brands, as the prices of new Rolex watches increase, leading to higher prices for second-hand ones. Additionally, clutch bags are expected to be highly sought after, particularly at Louis Vuitton and Prada. Prada, along with Bottega Veneta and Jacquemus, is highlighted as one of the brands to invest in this year, with the Milanese brand set to regain the spotlight with its highly coveted re-editions of its Hobo bag line.
