Venice: A Hub for Luxury Brands and Cultural Events

As the arrival of spring brings a sense of hope and recovery after the challenges of 2020, Venice has become a highly desirable destination, especially for luxury brands. Currently, the city is hosting the Biennale architecture exhibition, which opened recently and will run until November 21. Capitalizing on this cultural event, several luxury houses have chosen to organize their own events in Venice. One of these brands is Saint Laurent, which will be collaborating with acclaimed American multimedia artist Doug Aitken for their Spring/Summer 2022 menswear show on July 14.

Anthony Vaccarello, the creative director of Saint Laurent, has commissioned Doug Aitken to create a large-scale, site-specific installation as the backdrop for the label’s runway show. This installation is a gift to the city of Venice and its followers and will be accessible to the public until July 30, 2021. The exact location of the installation has not yet been disclosed by Saint Laurent.

Joining Saint Laurent in showcasing their latest collection in Venice is Valentino. On July 15, Valentino will present their Fall/Winter 2021-22 haute couture collection, titled ‘Des Ateliers’, at a venue that has not yet been revealed. Pierpaolo Piccioli, the creative director of Valentino, explains that Venice was a natural choice due to its ability to inspire positive vibrations in various creative fields such as art, theater, music, architecture, and cinema.

Since the opening of the 17th Venice Biennale architecture exhibition on May 22, several other luxury brands have also organized cultural events in Venice. The Louis Vuitton Foundation’s Venice site is currently hosting an exhibition that explores the works of designer Charlotte Perriand and architect Frank Gehry. Simultaneously, the Prada Foundation’s Ca’ Corner della Regina palace is showcasing a contemporary art exhibition titled ‘Stop Painting’. Additionally, Hermès has enlisted the talents of Dutch designers Mieke Meijer and Roy Letterlé from Studio Mieke Meijer to create an artistic window display for their store in Venice’s Saint Mark area as part of their ‘Fundamentals’ project.

Venice’s allure as a cultural hub has attracted luxury brands to stage their events and exhibitions in the city. The convergence of fashion, art, and architecture highlights the vibrant and inspiring atmosphere that Venice offers, making it an ideal backdrop for celebrating creativity and luxury. As the city continues to host the Biennale and welcome these prestigious fashion events, Venice solidifies its reputation as a must-visit destination for fashion and art enthusiasts alike.
