Valentino’s Pierpaolo Piccioli Wins Designer of the Year at Fashion Awards

Valentino’s creative director, Pierpaolo Piccioli, was recently awarded the prestigious designer of the year title at the Fashion Awards in London. This is the second time Piccioli has received this honor, with his previous win in 2018. His latest achievement comes as a result of his stunning AW22 collection, which featured a captivating almost-monotone pink color palette known as Pink PP.

The Fashion Awards, hosted by Jodie Turner-Smith, attracted attention both on and off the red carpet. However, there was a notable absence from the nominee list, with Balenciaga’s creative chief, Demna Gvasalia, choosing not to attend. Despite controversy surrounding Balenciaga’s recent ad campaign, Piccioli’s success could not be overshadowed.

The significance of the Fashion Awards was evident from the star-studded red carpet, where numerous celebrities showed their support for Valentino. The likes of Naomi Campbell, Kristen McMenamy, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, and Florence Pugh were all dressed in the label’s creations. The event also saw the presence of Elizabeth Debicki, Maya Jama, Stormzy, Georgia May Jagger, Lila Moss, FKA Twigs, and Tilda Swinton.

The awards themselves are determined by an international judging panel made up of over 1,000 industry experts. Alongside Piccioli’s win, Grace Wales Bonner’s Wales Bonner brand was recognized as the top independent British brand, with the BFC Foundation award going to SS Daley. Burberry also received acclaim for its innovative “metaverse world and gaming experience.” Notable figures like Raf Simons, Alessandro Michele, Priya Ahluwalia, Bethany Williams, and Gabriela Hearst were honored as leaders of change within the fashion industry.

Other notable awards included Bella Hadid being named Model of the Year and Yvon Chouinard, the founder of Patagonia, receiving the outstanding achievement award for his contribution to environmental causes. Katie Grand was recognized with the Isabella Blow award for her work as a fashion creator, while Jefferson Hack, co-founder of Dazed & Confused, received a special recognition award for his cultural curation efforts.

The Fashion Awards also paid tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth through a fashion salute segment that showcased various British designer brands. The event truly embodied the spirit of creativity, talent, and the transformative power of fashion. Congratulations are in order for all the winners and nominees who continuously push boundaries and shape the world of fashion.
