Valentino’s Couture Autumn-Winter 2022-2023 Show Causes Dispute with Dior

Valentino’s Couture Autumn-Winter 2022-2023 show in Rome caused a dispute with Dior, as the influx of spectators reportedly disrupted access to the Dior boutique, leading to claims of financial compensation. The clash occurred during Fashion Week, when Valentino presented its new Couture collection on the famous Piazza di Spagna. This location, known for its iconic staircase, is surrounded by luxury boutiques, including Dior’s store at number 70/71.

According to WWD, Dior expressed its dissatisfaction in a letter to Valentino, stating that the event created obstacles for visitors, with barriers blocking access to the boutique. The disruption reportedly caused the store to malfunction from the afternoon onwards, impacting potential sales on a day with significant commercial potential.

Valentino had previously assured local merchants of “smooth pedestrian traffic to the stores” in a letter dated June 27. However, Dior claims that these assurances were not upheld. As a result, the LVMH-owned brand has demanded €100,000 in financial compensation from Valentino, with a deadline of 15 days for payment. Dior has warned that it will take legal action to protect its rights if the payment is not made.

In an update, it has been reported that Dior has requested Valentino to disregard the initial letter of complaint. While the reasons for this withdrawal have not been officially disclosed, it is believed that Dior cited “cordial relations” and “mutual respect” between the two fashion houses.

This ongoing dispute between Valentino and Dior highlights the challenges faced by luxury brands during major fashion events. The clash over access to the Dior boutique serves as a reminder of the importance of effective coordination and communication between fashion houses in order to avoid conflicts and ensure a smooth experience for both brands and spectators.
