Valentino Vintage: Resale Initiative by Renowned Italian Luxury Brand

Valentino, the renowned Italian luxury brand, has recently joined the ever-growing trend of fashion brands venturing into the resale market. With its new initiative, called Valentino Vintage, the fashion house aims to capitalize on the rising popularity of vintage fashion and the success of second-hand clothing websites. This project allows customers to participate by visiting a dedicated page on Valentino’s website, where they can find a list of stores participating in the operation and gain insights into the process of reselling their pre-owned Valentino items.

Valentino Vintage operates in two distinct phases. In the first phase, individuals interested in selling their Valentino items are required to submit a photo of the items they wish to resell. After an initial approval process, these items will then need to be assessed in-store. The store will subsequently make an offer to buy back the items, providing customers with a shopping voucher that can be utilized at participating Valentino stores.

The second phase of the project will commence in January, as the collected vintage models will become available for commercialization. Valentino has carefully selected a range of vintage fashion stores to participate in this project, including well-known multi-brand retailers such as Madame Pauline Vintage in Milan, New York Vintage Inc. in New York, Resurrection in Los Angeles, and Laila Tokio in Tokyo. Additionally, Valentino’s flagship stores in these cities will also join the project.

To showcase this new and exciting initiative, Valentino has revamped a variety of logos inspired by the aesthetic trends of the 1970s to 1990s. Pierpaolo Piccioli, the creative director of Valentino, once again demonstrates his innovative approach to fashion.

Valentino Vintage is not alone in this undertaking, as other prominent fashion brands have also delved into the world of circular fashion. Jean Paul Gaultier launched a similar project on his new e-shop that coincides with the debut of Valentino Vintage. Gucci introduced its own project, named Gucci Vault, on a dedicated website in September. Isabel Marant also embraced the movement by launching its own second-hand clothing website in June.

Fashion e-commerce platforms have also recognized the potential and customer demand for the second-hand market. Leading companies such as Zalando, Farfetch, Mytheresa, and Benetton have all embraced the resale trend in recent months. Mytheresa even formed a partnership with Vestiaire Collective, a renowned luxury resale platform, to cater to the growing demand for sustainable and pre-owned fashion.

Valentino’s foray into the vintage resale market exemplifies the fashion industry’s evolving approach to sustainability and the changing desires of consumers. More and more individuals are seeking unique fashion pieces with a rich history, while also contributing to a more sustainable fashion industry by prolonging the lifespan of garments. With Valentino Vintage, the brand not only addresses this demand but also reaffirms its commitment to responsible and environmentally conscious practices.
