Valentino Rosso: A Captivating Tribute to Valentino’s Legendary Red Color

Valentino, the renowned luxury fashion house, has recently unveiled a captivating book that pays homage to its legendary red color. This vibrant hue has been an integral part of the brand since its inception and has helped create unforgettable draped dresses. For Valentino Garavani, the founder of the fashion house, red is much more than just a color; it represents a symbol, a logo, an iconic element, and a core value of the brand.

The deep and intense shade of red used by Valentino is a unique blend of coral, lacquer red, crimson, and geranium red. The inspiration for this iconic color came to Garavani in the late 1950s when he attended a performance at the Barcelona Opera house. He was entranced by a lady wearing a striking red dress in a nearby box, and in that moment, he knew that red would become the defining color of his future fashion label, which he established in 1959.

The book, entitled Valentino Rosso, which translates to “red” in Italian, has been published by Assouline and can be purchased at select Valentino stores for €250. Spanning over 300 pages, the book features a collection of stunning photographs accompanied by texts written by British fashion journalist Charlie Porter. Together, they narrate the story of the 180 red dresses and accessories that have shaped Valentino’s history.

Valentino Rosso takes readers on an immersive journey, showcasing the iconic creations of both Valentino Garavani and the current creative director, Pierpaolo Piccioli. From the timeless silk ball gowns and exquisite chiffon pieces of haute couture to the stylish Napa calfskin “Rockstud” slingbacks and logo buckle belts with antique brass finishes, the book explores the diverse range of red pieces that define Valentino’s legacy.

According to the fashion label’s press release, Valentino Rosso aims to strengthen the bond between the red color and the Maison. It is not simply a retrospective or celebratory book, but rather a reflection of Valentino’s creative process and their deep affinity for the color red. Piccioli has expressed, “This book is neither a retrospective nor a celebration. It is simply the way we work. It comes from the urgency to strengthen the relationship between the red color and the Maison.”

Valentino Rosso is an essential addition to the collection of any fashion enthusiast or admirer of Valentino’s iconic red creations. With its visually stunning imagery and insightful narratives, the book offers a profound understanding of the brand’s heritage and its enduring love affair with the color red. This publication serves as a tribute to the timeless allure and artistic vision of Valentino, ensuring that the legacy of the iconic red hue continues to thrive in the fashion world.
