Valentino Partners with Wanna to Launch Virtual Try-On Pilot

Luxury fashion brand Valentino has teamed up with augmented reality (AR) technology company Wanna, owned by Farfetch, to launch a virtual try-on (VTO) pilot. The partnership aims to address a common issue faced by online luxury brands, which is the inability for customers to try on clothes before buying them.

Wanna’s VTO technology allows users to visualize how apparel would look on them, providing a more interactive shopping experience. Customers can experiment with different styles and colors, helping them determine the best options that suit their preferences and personal style.

The pilot project will offer a curated selection of men’s upper-wear pieces from Valentino’s Urban Flows Fall 2023 collection. Customers will also have the opportunity to try on the exclusive ValenTie from the Black Tie Fall/Winter 2023-24 collection, available for pre-access only on Valentino’s e-commerce platform. Valentino describes the ValenTie as a unique item that adds a punk and contemporary twist to the VTO experience.

Sergey Arkhangelskiy, CEO of Wanna, emphasized that the technology not only allows brands to showcase apparel realistically but also provides users with the chance to try on clothes virtually before making a purchase. This second-generation VTO experience is specifically designed for e-commerce, targeting luxury brands. The use of Wanna’s proprietary algorithms guarantees a high level of realism in textures and materials, along with enhanced precision in fitting and tracking technologies, especially when using selfie mode.

The Wanna Wear app, available as a free download on the App Store, enables users to optimize their experience from any position of their iPhone. The app offers features such as using the rear camera for a full view of the virtual outfit in the mirror and utilizing selfie mode to observe every detail of the clothes. Users also have the option to visit Valentino’s website and view the detail page of the selected product.

By collaborating with Farfetch and Wanna, Valentino aims to elevate the online shopping experience for its customers and boost their confidence in making informed purchasing decisions. This pilot project highlights the increasing significance of virtual try-on technology in the fashion industry, particularly for luxury brands.
