Ultimz Journal Exclusive: Christie’s Hosts Online Auction Featuring Couture Pieces from Saint Laurent, Dior, Givenchy, and More

Christie’s, the renowned auction house, is set to showcase a collection of haute couture items from leading fashion houses such as Saint Laurent, Dior, and Givenchy. Titled “From Chanel to Saint Laurent: A Haute Couture Wardrobe,” this exclusive online auction will run from January 11th to 18th, coinciding with Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week.

Following the success of their previous sale featuring Marie-Antoinette’s exquisite furniture and Lesage-embroidered pieces, Christie’s is now offering fashion enthusiasts a chance to own iconic designs from the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. The auction will feature over 110 carefully curated pieces, including a stunning green satin and lace Givenchy coat by Alexander McQueen from 1997-1998 and enchanting evening ensembles by Christian Lacroix from the 1990s.

Among the highlights are a Chanel Coromandel coat from the 1996 fall/winter collection and a Yves Saint Laurent jacket from 1984-1985 adorned with crystals, rhinestones, gemstones, and lavish gold braids embroidered by Lesage. The catalogue also includes exquisite creations from Valentino, Pierre Cardin, Dior, and Jean-Louis Scherrer.

This unique auction by Christie’s comes in response to the growing demand for premium vintage fashion items, reminiscent of the success of LVMH’s Heristoria initiative. In 2021, Christie’s achieved a record-breaking turnover of $8.4 billion (€7.8 billion), with the sale of the Hubert de Givenchy Collectionneur collection in Paris contributing a staggering €118.1 million to this figure. This surge in interest can be attributed to consumers recognizing these rare fashion pieces as valuable assets. Notably, around 35% of Christie’s buyers in recent times were new to the auction house, and nearly one-third of them belonged to the millennial generation.

The carefully curated selection of iconic fashion pieces in this online auction is sure to captivate both fashion enthusiasts and collectors worldwide. Owning a piece of fashion history crafted by legendary designers is an irresistible proposition for both established collectors and emerging individuals looking to make an investment. The allure of haute couture continues to enchant fashion aficionados, and Christie’s remains at the forefront, catering to the ever-growing demand for these timeless treasures.
