Tom Ford Unveils Highly-Anticipated Fall 2022 Collections

After weeks of anticipation, Tom Ford has finally unveiled his highly-awaited Fall 2022 collections, providing a much-needed boost to the struggling NYFW lineup. Ford’s decision to cancel his runway collection had left a void in the fashion industry, making the release of his collection all the more significant. The cancellation was attributed to concerns over the Omicron variant wave in Los Angeles and delays in Italian factories due to the ongoing pandemic.

However, the release of Tom Ford’s collection felt lackluster, leaving many wondering if it was a silent digital release or simply Ford’s personal choice to remain quiet. Despite the lack of context, both the men’s and women’s collections featured a stunning range of monochromatic colors. While black served as the primary color for the women’s collection, pops of vibrant jewel tones like scarlet, raspberry, violet, royal blue, teal, and Kelly green added an element of excitement. The men’s collection showcased similar colors but with a grounding in rich chocolate brown, dark olive, midnight blue, and burgundy. Additionally, stone and white looks were incorporated to provide a contrast to the intense hues.

Tom Ford’s Fall 2022 collections built upon the color direction established in his previous Spring collection. Drawing inspiration from his early collections at Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent, which were renowned for their fearless use of color, Ford continued to experiment with vibrant hues. The designer recognized the visual impact that color has on social media, as he pointed out during the release of his Spring collection. For Fall 2022, Ford found inspiration in the iconic red velvet suit worn by Gwyneth Paltrow at the 1996 MTV Video Music Awards. This influential silhouette served as a guiding force for both the men’s and women’s looks in the collection.

Adding to his sporty aesthetic, Ford prominently featured hoods in his Fall 2022 collections. Satin blouse hoodies, detachable puffy nylon hoods, and tailored jackets with hood details played a central role in the designs. Ford even referred to tailored slacks as joggers, emphasizing the idea that dressing up is no longer the norm. However, for those seeking a more formal attire, Ford offered marabou feather jackets, thigh-high slit skirts, and dramatic raspberry outerwear, including faux-fur bombers and floor-length velvet trench coats.

In the men’s collection, tonal layered ensembles took center stage, with occasional pops of color in the form of turtlenecks or socks. Nevertheless, Ford made sure to incorporate standout pieces in red and light teal, such as silk blend, down-filled shell coats. Shiny jacquard and zebra-print devoré velvet tuxedos were also included, catering to red-carpet events during the upcoming awards season.

Nearly every look in both the men’s and women’s collections was paired with Tom Ford’s iconic sunglasses, reinforcing the color story in the women’s styles. The show teaser even showcased a pair of stocking-clad legs adorned with wedge sandals in a matching hue, reminiscent of a style Ford created for YSL back in 2004. Undoubtedly, these sunglasses and sandals are expected to be highly coveted, much like Ford’s previous designs.

All in all, Tom Ford’s Fall 2022 collections dazzled with their impeccably crafted and alluring merchandise. The provocative nature of the collection speaks for itself and is sure to make a lasting impact on the fashion industry.
