Tod’s Supports Restoration of Milan’s Palazzo Marino

Tod’s, the esteemed Italian footwear brand, continues to demonstrate its unwavering commitment to the preservation of Italian cultural heritage. Having already contributed a generous sum of 25 million euros for the restoration of the iconic Colosseum in 2021, the luxury group has now turned its attention to financing the refurbishment of Milan’s Palazzo Marino. This historic palace, constructed in the 15th century by architect Galeazzo Alessi, has functioned as the seat of Milan’s municipal administration since 1861.

The bid for this significant restoration project was successfully secured by Tod’s CEO, Diego Della Valle’s luxury group, triumphing over three other competing firms. The project scope entails restoring all exterior facades and internal courtyard structures, including porticoes and loggias, of this magnificent example of mannerist architecture. Originally a private mansion built in 1523 by a Genoese banking family, Palazzo Marino prominently graces Piazza della Scala, with its facade facing Milan’s renowned opera house. The city council estimates that over 5,345 square meters of facades will undergo restoration, amounting to a projected cost exceeding 2.5 million euros.

During a conference held at Tod’s Milan headquarters, CEO Diego Della Valle expressed profound enthusiasm for the project, stating, “We are delighted to support this substantial and tangible endeavor for the city and restore this iconic building to its former splendor, which the people of Milan hold dear.” He emphasized the significant role of collaboration between the public and private sectors, stressing that entrepreneurs have a responsibility to address societal issues and aid those in need.

Della Valle further highlighted the necessity for the corporate world to contribute to worthwhile and supportive projects, particularly during challenging economic times. He encouraged fellow entrepreneurs to participate actively in essential initiatives rather than merely criticizing what does not work. According to Della Valle, this commitment is not only crucial for enhancing credibility but also for fostering the global visibility of “Made in Italy.”

Tod’s has a longstanding history of supporting various social causes. In the aftermath of the devastating earthquake that struck the regions of Marche, Umbria, and Lazio in 2016, the company established a new factory in the ravaged village of Arquata del Tronto within a remarkably short period of one year.

Commencement of the restoration works for Palazzo Marino is imminent, with an expected duration of approximately 16 months. This project serves as a testament to Tod’s enduring dedication to safeguarding Italian heritage and actively contributing to the welfare of local communities.
