Thom Browne to Debut Haute Couture Collection in Paris

Fashion designer Thom Browne is gearing up to make a significant mark in the fashion industry as he prepares to showcase his debut haute couture collection in Paris this July. Browne, who is celebrating his 20th anniversary in the industry, is taking a leap into the esteemed French couture season.

While the exact date of the show is yet to be confirmed, it will feature both women’s and men’s fashion. Known for his technically demanding designs, Browne’s elaborate shows have always garnered attention. However, this will be the first collection that meets the criteria for haute couture and will be presented on the grand stage of the Paris collections.

Browne’s inclusion in the official calendar for the upcoming season has been approved by the Federation de la Haute Couture et de la Mode, the governing body of French fashion. This requires endorsement from a committee composed of senior executives from renowned couture houses such as Chanel and Christian Dior. Currently, the only other American couturier presenting in Paris is Daniel Roseberry at Schiaparelli.

Although Browne has been showcasing his menswear collections in Paris for over a decade, his women’s ready-to-wear collections are typically presented in New York. His runway displays in New York are known for their theatrics and grandiose sets, attracting the attention of fashion enthusiasts. His previous show, inspired by Antoine de Saint Exupéry’s “The Little Prince,” received widespread acclaim and was a highlight of New York Fashion Week in February.

Browne’s collections are characterized by his iconic little boy flannel suits and incorporate elements such as cricket blazers, bouclé wool coats, red and blue stripes, striped ties, banker pinstripes, and pleated skirts. His designs often embody a WASP (White Anglo-Saxon Protestant) fantasy with subtly provocative undertones.

The news of Thom Browne’s debut haute couture show in Paris was first reported by the Italian daily MFF Fashion. As the designer is primarily owned by the Italian fashion and textile group Zegna, this showcases the global influence and reach of Browne’s brand.

Thom Browne’s decision to showcase his collection in Paris is a significant achievement for the Federation, further solidifying the French capital’s position as the leading destination for international fashion weeks. With Browne’s impeccable craftsmanship and artistic vision, his inaugural haute couture collection is expected to captivate the fashion world and leave a lasting impression.
