The Very Group’s Successful Christmas Sales Period

During the Christmas season, The Very Group, an online retail company, experienced a successful sales period, particularly in the toys, gifts & beauty and electrical categories. Sales in these categories showed strong performance, contributing to the overall growth of the company. The Very UK division, in particular, reported a 3.4% increase in retail sales compared to the previous year, surpassing the growth of the UK online non-food retail market.

Within the toys, gifts & beauty category, the company saw an impressive growth of 8.8%. This was driven by the popularity of games consoles and perfumes, particularly those from the renowned brand, Marc Jacobs. The electrical category also performed well, with sales increasing by 7.4%.

Unfortunately, other categories experienced a decline in sales. Fashion & sports saw a decrease of 3.9%, while the home category saw a decrease of 2.9%. Littlewoods and Very Ireland, the company’s other divisions, did not disclose specific figures, but it can be assumed that they also faced a decline in sales, considering the overall lower group sales compared to the Very UK division.

Despite these declines, CEO Lionel Desclée expressed his satisfaction with the results, attributing the success to various factors. These include the company’s diverse range of products, competitive pricing, engaging marketing campaigns, and improved online shopping experience. Desclée also highlighted the challenging year ahead for retailers, but expressed confidence in The Very Group’s operating model. This model combines digital retail across various categories with flexible payment options, aiming to provide families with a comprehensive and convenient shopping experience.

Overall, The Very Group’s strong performance in the toys, gifts & beauty and electrical categories during the Christmas period showcases the company’s ability to adapt and thrive in a challenging market.
