The LVMH Prize 2022: Promoting Emerging Fashion Designers

The LVMH Prize 2022 has officially opened its doors to emerging fashion designers worldwide. Founded by luxury powerhouse LVMH in 2013, this highly sought-after competition aims to promote and nurture the talent of up-and-coming designers. Over the years, the prestigious prize has been awarded to outstanding individuals such as Nensi Dojaka, Rui Zhou, Colm Dillane, and Lukhanyo Mdingi.

The LVMH Prize encourages designers between the ages of 18 and 40 to submit their applications. To be eligible, applicants must have created at least two collections of women’s, men’s, or unisex ready-to-wear fashion. The official LVMH Prize website, lvmhprize.com, serves as the exclusive platform for submitting applications.

The selection process for the LVMH Prize consists of two stages. Initially, a jury composed of industry experts meticulously reviews the applications and chooses the semi-finalists. If the health situation permits, these semi-finalists will have the opportunity to showcase their work at a physical showroom during Paris Fashion Week on March 2, 2022. In addition, their creations will be made available for online viewing on the LVMH Prize website from March 3 to 6, 2022, giving the public a chance to engage with their designs.

Adapting to the challenges posed by the ongoing pandemic, the LVMH Prize introduced new elements in its format. In 2021, for the first time, the competition incorporated public voting in the final selection phase, allowing the general public to have a say in determining the winners, alongside the established jury panel. This inclusive and democratic approach to decision-making will continue in 2022.

The grand winner of the LVMH Prize 2022 will receive a generous prize of €300,000 as well as gain access to a year-long mentorship program provided by LVMH. Additionally, the Karl Lagerfeld special prize, named in honor of the legendary designer, will award €150,000 to another deserving recipient. LVMH will also recognize three recent fashion academy graduates, who have until March 15, 2022, to apply for this specific category.

Since its inception eight years ago, the LVMH Prize has played a pivotal role in the fashion industry by championing the talents of emerging designers. Through its main award and the Karl Lagerfeld Prize, the competition has acknowledged the accomplishments of 25 designers thus far. Many of these winners have gone on to present their collections at prestigious fashion weeks in Paris and London, solidifying their positions in the industry. Noteworthy past winners include Marine Serre, Jacquemus, Rokh, Grace Wales Bonner, Marques’Almeida, Thebe Magugu, Hed Mayner, and Vejas.

The deadline for applications for the LVMH Prize 2022 is January 30, 2022. Aspiring designers are urged to seize this incredible opportunity to gain recognition and support from one of the world’s leading luxury conglomerates.
