The Importance of Heritage: Roger Vivier and Delvaux Showcase Timeless Designs

In the world of luxury accessories, two heritage brands, Roger Vivier and Delvaux, recently made a statement in Paris with their latest collections. These brands showcased their longstanding traditions of craftsmanship and innovation, highlighting the importance of heritage in the fashion industry.

Roger Vivier, with creative director Gherardo Felloni at the helm, transformed the Fondation Simone and Cino Del Duca into an immersive experience of the brand’s house codes. The venue became a space for visitors to visually and physically explore the brand’s iconic features. Installations, artisans demonstrating various techniques, and live performances all contributed to the unique experience. Felloni specifically focused on the use of satin bows, a signature feature from the brand’s archives. One standout shoe from the collection, the ‘Virgule Flowers Bow Slingback’, incorporated several of the brand’s house codes, including the curved comma heel, embroidered paillettes and gemstone flowers, and vibrant colors. Felloni encouraged wearing these adorned shoes during the daytime as a way to express freedom and individuality.

Meanwhile, Delvaux, a Belgian luxury house with a rich history dating back to 1829, also drew inspiration from its heritage in its latest showcase. Led by former president Jean-Marc Loubier, the brand transformed a townhouse into a summer-themed event reminiscent of a getaway. Lifesize sandcastles and colorful leather windmills provided a whimsical backdrop for the brand’s classic bag styles, which were reimagined in new iterations. One highlight was the 1967 ‘Tempête’ bag, which was introduced in new versions such as tote, clutch, and pochette styles. Delvaux also unveiled debut styles like the ‘Lingot’, featuring elongated D-shaped hardware, and the ‘Leonce’, inspired by a design from the seventies found in their archives. The iconic ‘Pin’ bag, celebrating its fiftieth anniversary, received a fresh update and was transformed into mini wristlet clutches and toy-sized versions. Loubier stressed that despite an entry price point of $2,000, the focus was on capturing different moments of a woman’s day and catering to diverse preferences in sizes and materials. The brand’s attention to detail and craftsmanship was evident in new features like the D-leather tab details, colorful leather pom poms, and wicker sourced from France’s Loire valley, all contributing to the enduring quality of Delvaux bags.

The showcases by Roger Vivier and Delvaux emphasize the importance of heritage in the fashion industry. By celebrating their legacies while embracing innovation, these brands showcase the timeless appeal of their designs and the meticulous craftsmanship that goes into creating them. They remind us that despite the ever-changing trends and demands of the modern world, timeless designs and attention to detail can stand the test of time.
