The Ford Mustang: World’s Best-Selling Sports Car

The Ford Mustang has proven itself as the world’s best-selling sports car, according to a recent study using registration data from S&P Global Mobility. In fact, the Mustang has maintained this status for the past ten years. This year, as the Mustang celebrates its 59th anniversary, it proudly holds the title of the best-selling car worldwide over the last decade.

Internal data from Ford indicates that the United States accounts for 78% of global Mustang sales currently. However, there have also been significant sales growth in some European countries. Germany, for example, experienced a 17% increase in Mustang sales, while Switzerland and the United Kingdom saw respective increases of 14.9% and 14.4%.

The success of the Mustang can be attributed to its loyal fanbase and passionate owners. Dave Bozeman, Vice President of Enthusiast Vehicles for Ford Blue and the Ford Customer Service Division, expressed gratitude towards the Mustang community for their support. Bozeman stated, “It is our commitment to serve the Mustang community…that has earned the Mustang this honor.”

Looking towards the future, Ford has exciting plans for the Mustang. The 7th generation Mustang is set to launch in the summer, and it will be available in over 100 markets across the globe. The new generation will introduce two new engines: a 2.3-liter EcoBoost and a 5.0-liter Coyote V8 with an impressive 500 horsepower.

In addition to the new generation, Ford has announced its return to the GT3 category for the 2024 24 Hours of Le Mans race. To commemorate the 100th anniversary of this legendary race, Ford will enter a new model of the Mustang equipped with a V8 engine. Jim Farley, CEO of Ford Motor Company, expressed the significance of this return, stating, “Returning to Le Mans is the beginning of building a global motorsport business with Mustang.”

The Ford Mustang’s record-breaking sales and continuous innovations solidify its position as the world’s top-selling sports car. Not only does the Mustang boast an iconic design, but it also represents a commitment to delivering exceptional driving experiences. With the upcoming launch of the 7th generation Mustang and its return to GT3 racing, Ford continues to push boundaries and excite car enthusiasts worldwide.
