The Creative Partnership Between Lutz Huelle and Delpozo Ends

The creative partnership between Lutz Huelle and Delpozo has officially come to an end, marking the conclusion of a turbulent relationship. Huelle, who was appointed as the creative director of Delpozo in 2018 following the departure of Josep Font, did not have the opportunity to showcase his first collection on the runway before the split. Taking to Instagram to announce the end of their collaboration, Huelle expressed gratitude towards his colleagues in Madrid, where Delpozo’s headquarters and design studio are located, praising their talent and craftsmanship.

Huelle had a clear vision for Delpozo, aiming to create a collection of timeless and beautiful pieces that could be incorporated into everyday life. He wanted to bring the concept of couture into the fast-paced lives of modern individuals. Unfortunately, the timing was not right for this vision to come to fruition, and Huelle expressed his hope that Delpozo will prosper in the future.

During his tenure at Delpozo, Huelle faced numerous challenges. Although the brand had experienced growth and success, showcasing at London Fashion Week and opening stores in Asia and the Middle East, it encountered difficulties in early 2019. Layoffs and the search for new investors became necessary, but despite efforts, the company was unable to secure a majority shareholder. Consequently, international stores had to be closed, leadership underwent changes, and excess inventory was sold at discounted prices.

The collaboration between Huelle and Delpozo yielded only a small capsule collection in conjunction with Anthropologie. Released last year, the collection offered a reinterpretation of Delpozo’s signature style through Huelle’s unique perspective. While the future of Delpozo remains uncertain under the ownership of Perfumes y Diseño, who recently acquired a minority stake in menswear label Oteyza, Huelle provided a glimpse into what his first collection for Delpozo would have looked like on Instagram.

Despite the challenges faced during their partnership, Huelle remains hopeful and optimistic about Delpozo’s potential in the fashion industry. He believes that the house possesses great promise and looks forward to seeing it flourish. As for Huelle himself, he has his own eponymous label and aspires to return to staging physical runway shows in Paris.
