The 2020 LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers

The 2020 edition of the highly anticipated LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers has officially been launched. As the fashion world eagerly awaits the announcement of who will succeed last year’s winner, South African designer Thebe Magugu, it is clear that this prestigious competition serves as a vital springboard for contemporary creation.

Established in 2013, the LVMH Prize aims to provide crucial support for emerging talent within the fashion industry. The lucky recipient of the annual Grand Prize not only receives a generous funding of 30,000 euros but also benefits from a year of invaluable guidance and support from the esteemed LVMH teams. This coveted mentoring program encompasses a diverse range of expertise, including sourcing, sustainable development, communication, and intellectual property. Aspiring designers from around the globe, under the age of 40, who have produced and marketed more than two ready-to-wear collections are invited to submit their applications by the deadline next February.

In addition to the sought-after Young Designer Prize, the competition also features the prestigious Karl Lagerfeld Prize —a special jury award now renamed in honor of the late fashion icon. Alongside a substantial reward of 150,000 euros, the winner of this accolade will receive a full year of support from LVMH. Furthermore, the Graduate Prizes aim to recognize and nurture the talents of three students who have successfully completed a full course of study at a fashion school during the 2019-2020 academic year. These talented individuals will each be awarded a grant of 10,000 euros and given an incredible opportunity to join the creative studio of one of the LVMH Houses for an entire year.

Following a rigorous evaluation process, a committee of esteemed experts from the fashion and luxury industries will select eight finalists who will then compete in the highly anticipated final round. The judging panel for the final will consist of distinguished Creative Directors from various LVMH Houses, as well as industry experts Delphine Arnault, Jean-Paul Claverie, and Sidney Toledano. The 2019 competition saw an astounding number of over 1,700 applications from more than a hundred countries worldwide. Throughout the years, the LVMH Prize has been awarded to influential designers including Marques Almeida, Simon Porte Jacquemus—who recently celebrated the ten-year anniversary of his brand in a truly remarkable way—and Marine Serre.

For further details and to access the application process, interested individuals are encouraged to visit the official LVMH Prize website before the closing date of February 2, 2020. This is an incredible opportunity for emerging fashion talents to showcase their skill and creativity on a global platform, potentially propelling their careers to new heights within the industry.
