Tencel and Amy Powney Announce Finalists of ‘Fashion Reimagined’ Design Competition

Lenzing’s sustainable fiber brand, Tencel, and British designer Amy Powney of Mother of Pearl have revealed the finalists of their design competition, ‘Fashion Reimagined’. The competition, which was featured at the ‘Best of GFW’ Catwalk during Graduate Fashion Week, aimed to explore sustainability in fashion.

Named after Powney’s recent documentary, the competition challenged designers to draw inspiration from trees in various ways. The brief, ‘Any Tree, Any Idea Goes’, encouraged participants to consider sustainability, circularity, and supply chain in their designs.

Out of numerous entries, five student designers stood out as finalists, each representing different design pillars. William Moore’s ‘Shadowed Structure’ focused on technology and innovation, while Emma Dereve’s ‘I’m A Tree Hugger’ highlighted zero waste. India Lupton’s ‘Psithurism’ emphasized functionality, and Maddison Brabrook’s ‘The Meaning of The Tree Of Life’ explored circularity. Lastly, Millie Grover’s ‘Family Ties’ celebrated body positivity.

The collaboration between Tencel, Powney, and the finalists showcased sustainable fashion’s potential, promoting the use of eco-friendly Tencel fibers and encouraging collaboration and innovative design thinking. The designs were crafted and manufactured by The Prince’s Foundation at Dumfries House in Scotland, in collaboration with graduates from the Modern Artisan and Batch Production Skills Programs. Camper boots, also made with Tencel fibers, completed the final looks.

Fashion Reimagined serves as an important platform for emerging designers to showcase their sustainable solutions, offering a fresh perspective on fashion’s relationship with the environment. The finalists’ designs demonstrate their creativity and dedication to sustainability, inspiring the next generation of designers.
