In a recent turn of events, luxury designer brand Temperley London has managed to achieve a growth in revenue for the year 2017, despite ongoing losses plaguing the company. The brand, which is renowned for its sophisticated and feminine designs, has reported a revenue increase alongside a notable investment of £1.78m from investors. This development comes amidst a backdrop of financial challenges for the brand, with losses escalating from £1.44m to £1.53m compared to the previous year.

Alice Temperley, the visionary behind the brand, has been tirelessly working to revitalize the business following a significant setback in 2014 when losses soared to £2.8m. Despite these trials and tribulations, Temperley London continues to attract A-list celebrities and members of royalty with its opulent dresses that come with a hefty price tag of about £2,000. Nonetheless, the brand remains cautious about its future prospects, acknowledging the uncertainties that lie ahead.

Despite the financial hurdles, 2017 marked a promising year for Temperley London, as evidenced by a 4% growth in revenue, amounting to £11.3m. The company also saw a commendable boost in gross margins by 6 percentage points, culminating at 51%. International markets, notably in the US, Canada, UAE, China, and Hong Kong, played a pivotal role in contributing to 53% of the brand’s sales.

Taking proactive steps to tackle financial challenges head-on, Temperley London has been diligently working to streamline its range plan, fine-tune its pricing structure across all product categories, optimize its wholesale operations, and reduce excess inventory levels to enhance cash flow. To further drive the brand towards success, Sally Hughes assumed the role of the new chief executive in September 2018, succeeding Patricia Sancho, who held the position for five years.

Despite the adversities faced, Temperley London remains resolute in its commitment to overcoming financial hurdles and cementing its presence within the luxury fashion landscape.
