Swatch Group AG Releases Limited Edition Blue Plastic Speedmaster in Collaboration with Omega MoonSwatch

Swatch Group AG is preparing to shake up the watch industry once again with its latest release – the blue plastic limited edition of the iconic Speedmaster from the Omega MoonSwatch collaboration. This collaboration aims to reignite interest in the collection and will introduce the Mission to Neptune version, featuring a gold-painted seconds hand, in select stores worldwide on August 30th.

The initial launch of the MoonSwatch collaboration in March 2022 caused widespread chaos, with customers queuing for hours to get their hands on the $260 Swatch version of the revered Omega Speedmaster – the first watch worn on the moon.

Out of the various versions released, the blue-cased MoonSwatch became highly sought after by collectors. However, production was temporarily halted due to reports of the blue dye rubbing off on users’ skin. Swatch Group AG swiftly responded by reformulating the dye to ensure its harmlessness.

Despite this temporary setback, the Mission to Neptune has become one of the most valuable MoonSwatches in the secondary market. While most MoonSwatches trade at around the retail price of $260, the Neptune version commands an average market price of $821, according to WatchCharts, a website dedicated to tracking secondary market prices for watches.

Adding to the excitement surrounding this release, Omega ambassador and James Bond actor Daniel Craig has been seen sporting the blue MoonSwatch, further increasing its desirability. Swatch’s Instagram account describes the timepiece as “a tribute to the Blue Moon of August.” Notably, this is the first special edition MoonSwatch with a full moon theme housed in a blue plastic casing, breaking away from the traditional grey plastic of the Mission to the Moon version.

As the release date approaches, Swatch Group AG aims to capture the attention of both watch enthusiasts and collectors with its latest offering. Fans are eagerly awaiting the opportunity to add this exclusive blue MoonSwatch to their own collections.
