Sunday at Paris Menswear: Gritty and Groovy Collections

Sunday at Paris Menswear featured a captivating array of collections that combined gritty and groovy elements in a purely digital format. Henrik Vibskov’s presentation, titled “The Horsepower Takeaway,” drew inspiration from fire, resulting in a dark yet magnificent collection that included blooming flower-print suits and ink-dyed work shirts. Vibskov engaged the audience uniquely by personally guiding them through his collection before revealing it against a stunning brick wall backdrop.

The debut of KidSuper by Colm Dillane brought a fresh perspective with a virtual performance titled “Everything’s Fake until it’s Real.” This collection showcased rock star concert gear, cool dressing gowns in prints, graffiti mural coats, and a striking red suit embellished with giant mouths. Junichi Abe’s Kolor stole the spotlight with models performing slow-motion somersaults in a concrete loft, showcasing impeccable tailoring and an innovative fusion of street style.

Yoshio Kubo presented a serene collection in a classic Japanese timber villa, featuring billowing silk shirts, layered trenches, and elegant kimonos. Auralee kicked off the day with a minimalist aesthetic on an industrial jetty, featuring faded rose jumpsuits and Prussian gray dusters. Arthur Avellano of KidSuper explored origins with latex jackets and floral shirts, emphasizing intimacy and skin. Namacheko from Belgium brought knits and Aboriginal patterns to life on a beach setting.

Facetasm’s presentation of arty sportswear in an underground parking lot transitioned seamlessly to a garden setting under Tokyo Tower. Unfortunately, Archie Alled-Martinez’s video fell short with crotch shots and minimal clothing that lacked substance. Overall, Sunday at Paris Menswear showcased a diverse range of designs, from experimental to traditional, proving that creativity shines through even in a digital format.
