Stuart Vevers’ Santa Fe Journey: A Bold New Vision for American Fashion

Stuart Vevers, the Creative Director of Coach, embarked on a transformative journey of inspiration during a visit to Santa Fe, New Mexico. The enchanting city left a lasting impact on Vevers, leading him to craft a bold new vision of American fashion that incorporated elements of Western nostalgia, Disney characters, Santa Fe’s artistic sub-culture, and alternative vibes.

During his brief stay in Santa Fe, Vevers delved into the city’s unique charm by exploring a ghost ranch, the Turquoise Trail, and quirky communities where houses are supported by airplane wings. It was in a dive bar nightclub where the designer’s creative vision for the upcoming collection began to take shape.

The influence of Vevers’ Santa Fe experience was reflected in the spectacular staging of the Spring-Summer 2019 Coach show. Show producer Stefan Beckman transformed the runway into a visual extravaganza, with a massive metal Tyrannosaurus as the focal point surrounded by rustic elements. The collection, inspired by the 1940 film “Santa Fe Trail,” featured adventurous designs like patchwork leather trench-coats, palm tree print mini dresses, and unique footwear combinations.

Vevers’ uncanny ability to connect with the younger generation has propelled Coach to commercial success under his leadership, with a turnover of $4.488 billion. His understanding of fashion trends has established him as a prominent figure in the industry, showcasing his talent and determination. The Coach show in Santa Fe highlighted Vevers’ deep appreciation for Americana and his innovative approach to pushing fashion boundaries.

As Vevers concluded the show alongside model Dree Hemingway, the impact of his Santa Fe-inspired collection was evident. The stage Coach had traveled along the Santa Fe Trail, leaving a lasting impression on the fashion landscape.
