Strong Easter Performances at London Designer Outlet and Springfields Outlet Showcase Resilience of Outlets Sector

London Designer Outlet (LDO) at Wembley Park and Springfields Outlet in Lincolnshire have shown outstanding performance this Easter season, indicating the thriving nature of the outlets sector. Both malls reported a 4% year-on-year increase in total revenues and a 5% rise in footfall, proving that outlet shopping remains highly popular among consumers.

Notably, LDO experienced a 0.3% growth in like-for-like revenue, surpassing the challenges faced by the wider UK retail sector. The shopping center has been benefiting from a boost in tax-free sales from tourism, with a 3.4% increase so far this year. The later Easter timing this year also played a role in the success of both malls, with the warmer weather driving sales in categories like clothing, footwear, and sports-related items.

In addition to strong sales figures, LDO took a significant step forward in customer service by introducing Dropit, a cutting-edge app-based delivery service. Data showed that customers using Dropit spent nearly five times more per head compared to other guests in the week leading up to Easter Monday.

On the other hand, Springfields Outlet showcased a 4% revenue growth during the Easter School holiday period, despite the attractive weather tempting consumers towards outdoor activities. This growth follows a positive trend from Q1, where revenue increased by 9%. The outlet center’s consistent revenue growth over the past 14 years since its opening in 2004 highlights a successful business model that combines outlet shopping with on-site leisure activities.

Exciting developments are on the horizon for Springfields Outlet, with plans for an £18 million extension that is anticipated to receive final planning approval in June. This expansion will bring an additional 50,000 sq ft of retail and dining space, further enriching the overall shopping and leisure experience for visitors.

The strong Easter performances of both LDO and Springfields Outlet demonstrate the resilience and allure of the outlets sector, as they continue to shine brighter than traditional shopping centers through innovative strategies and robust sales growth.
