Stella McCartney’s Debut in Interior Design

Stella McCartney has made her debut in the world of interior design with the launch of her exhibition, titled “Future of Fashion: An Innovation Conversation with Stella McCartney,” at the Salone del Mobile furniture fair in Milan. This exhibition, which will be open to the public until June 12, combines fashion and design to showcase McCartney’s achievements and her vision for the future.

Described as a “laboratory for design experimentation, innovation, and cross-pollination,” the exhibition initially premiered at the UN’s COP26 climate conference in Glasgow. Its purpose is to inspire visitors with the possibilities of material innovation in creating a more nature-positive market. In addition to displaying curated items from McCartney’s design history, the exhibition also features recent innovations such as the Frayme Mylo bag, a product of McCartney’s collaboration with Bolt Threads.

The exhibition offers a variety of exciting experiences for its visitors. One of its highlights is a materials innovation pop-up shop, where McCartney showcases vegan, mycelium, regenerated, and plant-based material innovations. Visitors will also encounter larger-than-life fungi sculptures and an immersive infinity room, providing a unique and inspiring atmosphere.

In addition to the fashion and design aspects, the exhibition highlights McCartney’s collaborations in the interiors industry. Her partnership with renowned Italian furniture maker B&B Italia involved the transformation of their Le Bambole armchair. McCartney adorned it with the hand-drawn Forest Fungi burgundy print from her Summer 2022 collection, using conscious and sustainable materials.

Furthermore, McCartney collaborated with British wallpaper house Cole & Son to create a burgundy and navy wallpaper featuring her Fungi Forest toile de Jouy print. This wallpaper surpasses the sustainability standards of previous luxury interiors products from the firm, as it consists of 79% renewable fibers and undergoes a manufacturing process that produces 30% fewer greenhouse gases than traditional non-woven wall coverings.

By venturing into the interiors industry at Salone del Mobile, Stella McCartney is embarking on an exciting new chapter for her fashion label. Through her exhibition, she aims to inspire change-makers in the creative industry and shape a more sustainable and nature-positive future. McCartney’s innovative approach to material innovation and sustainable design serves as a great source of inspiration for those striving to make a positive impact.
