Standout Brands, Act N°1 and Sunnei, Captivate Audience at Milan Fashion Week

During Milan Fashion Week, Act N°1 and Sunnei were standout brands that captivated the audience with their innovative presentations. Act N°1, designed by Luca Lin and Galib Gassanoff, took inspiration from the opulence of a grand aristocratic 19th-century ball for their Spring/Summer 2022 collection. Their aim was to break free from the constraints of the past and celebrate the freedom of the female body. The show began with a mesmerizing string quintet playing enchanting melodies in a dimly lit venue, setting an atmosphere of elegance and anticipation.

As the models graced the runway, they were adorned in exquisite and sumptuous garments. Act N°1’s signature tulle was transformed into trains, capes, and voluminous petticoats, adding a sense of drama and movement to the pieces. The collection reinterpreted classic silhouettes with contemporary twists, such as turning a dress and crinoline into a stylish trench coat and elevating a denim jacket with pleats and puffy sleeves. The designers also showcased delicate bodices, dresses, and maxi-coats in painted silk, featuring watercolor-like prints of landscapes, flowers, and foliage. The grand finale featured three show-stopping period dresses that were split open, revealing the models beneath, while one model danced en pointe, leaving the audience in awe.

Sunnei, on the other hand, offered a completely different experience. The brand promised an “extreme” encounter and certainly delivered on that promise with a mysterious and immersive setup. Guests were led through a dark corridor and handed a white fabric bag with strict instructions not to open it. They were brought to their designated spots marked by numbers on the floor, where they could finally take out the sunglasses provided in the bag. As the show commenced, a blinding white light illuminated the runway, and the models were highlighted by syncopated strobe effects.

Loris Messina and Simone Rizzo, the creative minds behind Sunnei, presented a vibrant collection featuring sharply cut and brightly colored garments. Various chromatic combinations, such as pairing red slippers with a sage green ensemble, added a playful and eclectic touch. The duo played with thick two-tone stripes, monochrome pieces, and spontaneous brushstrokes of paint on select items, exuding a sense of spontaneity and creativity. The silhouettes remained relaxed, showcasing loose interchangeable tops and wide-leg pants that emphasized comfort and freedom of movement. The accessories, including the sunglasses distributed to the audience, served as the perfect finishing touches to complete the looks.

Act N°1 and Sunnei’s presentations at Milan Fashion Week demonstrated their unique visions and determination to push boundaries in the fashion industry. Their innovative approaches and ability to create immersive experiences left a lasting impression on the audience. These young brands have undoubtedly established themselves as ones to watch, as they continue to redefine the fashion show experience and expand the definition of what it means to showcase collections.
