Sporty-Chic Winter Wear Takes Center Stage at Milan Fashion Week

Milan Fashion Week was a spectacle of sporty-chic winter wear, as designers seamlessly blended elements of sportswear into elegant and urban looks. Brands like Dsquared2, Emilio Pucci, and Fila stole the show with their collections that expertly merged athleticism with sophistication.

Dsquared2’s presentation was a vibrant and energetic affair, as models danced to a frenzied gypsy soundtrack in a retro caravan transformed into a party scene. The collection pushed boundaries by mixing glittering evening gowns with Canadian sportswear and outerwear. The result was a playful and kitschy aesthetic, with distressed jeans, flared trousers, lumberjack shirts, and sweatshirts adorned with pearls, rhinestones, and sequins. Lace bodysuits and embroidered dresses featured sporty details, while lamé tunics paired with laced boots evoked the elegance of ice-skaters. The combination of short outfits, high-heeled boots, and wedges created a glamorous and edgy winter look.

Fila, a pioneering sportswear label with over a century of history, collaborated with British designer Katie Grand to celebrate its 110th anniversary. Grand reimagined iconic pieces from Fila’s archives in a highly graphic style, focusing on sports disciplines like tennis, skiing, and basketball. The collection featured oversized logo t-shirts, zip polos, tight-fitting ski suits, knitwear, swimming costumes, tank tops, tracksuits, and mini shorts, all reinvented with a bold and modern twist. Fila’s signature red, navy, and white color scheme took center stage, paying homage to the brand’s heritage and its impact on sportswear fashion. This Fall/Winter 2021-22 collection perfectly captured Fila’s timeless style, combining vintage-inspired essentials with sophisticated pieces.

Emilio Pucci’s presentation embraced a retro-future aesthetic against a candy pink backdrop. The collection showcased young skiers dressed in tight-fitting jumpsuits made from recycled nylon fabric. Paired with white or brightly colored maxi capes, quilted jackets, skirts, shorts, and dresses, these jumpsuits became a second-skin style statement. Emilio Pucci’s classic prints received a refresh with a palette of soft hues. The garments were styled in tone-on-tone sets or in a mix-and-match of patterns and colors, offering a range of options. Monochrome pieces, including a blue chiffon dress adorned with plumes and crystals, added a touch of elegance to the collection.

The overall takeaway from Milan Fashion Week was the successful fusion of sportswear and high fashion, demonstrating that sporty-chic winter wear can be both stylish and versatile. Dsquared2, Emilio Pucci, and Fila exemplified this trend with their collections, showcasing looks that are perfect for both daytime and evening wear. The use of bold colors, playful embellishments, and nostalgic references solidifies the sporty-chic trend as a must-have for the upcoming winter season.
