Sky Chief Jeremy Darroch has announced his upcoming exit from the Burberry board, marking the end of his tenure as a senior independent director. The luxury brand unveiled a series of changes to its board of directors, with Carolyn McCall stepping in to take over Darroch’s role. McCall, currently the CEO of British television channel ITV, brings a wealth of experience to the position.
Darroch, who has been a key figure at Burberry since 2017, will not be standing for reelection at the upcoming Annual General Meeting on 15 July. His decision was influenced by his numerous other executive commitments outside of Burberry. Over the years, Darroch has made significant contributions to the brand’s development, serving as the chair of the audit committee and leveraging his expertise in the consumer retail environment.
Burberry chairman Gerry Murphy commended Darroch for his invaluable insights and remarked that his absence would be keenly felt. Darroch’s replacement, Carolyn McCall, has been a non-executive director at Burberry since 2014 and is poised to bring a fresh perspective to the board. Her leadership roles at EasyJet and Guardian Media Group, in addition to her current position at ITV, underscore her exceptional credentials.
The reshuffle within Burberry’s board underscores the brand’s commitment to diversifying its leadership and tapping into a range of experiences and expertise. With McCall’s appointment, Burberry aims to navigate the dynamic landscape of the luxury fashion market with renewed vigor and strategic direction.
