Simone Rocha to Design Jean-Paul Gaultier Couture Collection

Exciting news has emerged that designer Simone Rocha will be at the helm of the next Jean-Paul Gaultier couture collection. Set to debut in January in Paris, the fashion show will showcase Rocha’s incredible talent and unique artistic vision.

This collaboration follows a new format for Gaultier couture, where a different designer takes the reins each season. Past designers who have had the honor of creating Gaultier couture include Sacai’s Chitose Abe, Glenn Martens, Olivier Rousteing, and most recently, Haider Ackermann.

Rocha took to her Instagram account to share the announcement, posting a story featuring a stunning bouquet of flowers and a signed note from Gaultier himself. The note read, “Congratulations for your SHOW! And see you, for the next one… in PARIS !!! Jean-Paul Gaultier.”

Rocha’s recent showing at London Fashion Week left a lasting impression. Titled “Dress Rehearsal,” the collection was presented in the rehearsal space of the English National Ballet in Canary Wharf. Drawing inspiration from the legend of The Ark of Kilbaha, Rocha showcased her signature romantic aesthetic, using innovative fabrics and exquisite embellishments. The collection featured an array of garments for both men and women, highlighting Rocha’s versatility and skill.

Although the couture collections resulting from these collaborations are not available for immediate purchase, they serve as a means to generate attention and buzz for Gaultier’s extensive fragrance business. Rocha’s style, which blends elements of historical fashion, punk influences, artisan craftsmanship, and cultural references from her Hong Kong and Irish heritage, promises to captivate the audience and bring excitement to Gaultier’s brand.

This collaboration with Jean-Paul Gaultier marks another milestone in Simone Rocha’s career. Previously, she partnered with H&M to create a Tudor-inspired collection for the whole family, demonstrating her ability to translate her unique aesthetic into accessible and wearable pieces. The collection launched in spring 2021 amidst the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic.

As the January unveiling of the Jean-Paul Gaultier couture collection approaches, fashion enthusiasts eagerly anticipate witnessing Simone Rocha’s show-stopping designs. With her distinctive style and extraordinary talent, Rocha is sure to pay homage to Gaultier’s legacy while adding her own artistic flair.
