Selfridges Launches The Stock Market at Corner Shop

Selfridges, the renowned department store in London, is furthering its eco-conscious efforts with the launch of The Stock Market at its Corner Shop in the flagship Oxford Street location. Taking inspiration from financial stock exchanges, The Stock Market allows customers to value and exchange pre-owned items, as well as have them repaired or upcycled.

This initiative is a part of Selfridges’ commitment to circular services, aiming to have 45% of its business attributed to circularity by 2030. The launch also coincides with the Worn Again season, a campaign focused on promoting circular shopping experiences.

What makes The Stock Market unique is its incorporation of retailtainment, creating an engaging and entertaining atmosphere. The space is designed with stock exchange-style rotundas and data-filled trading screens to add an element of excitement. Selfridges encourages visitors to think of it as “trading with your own wardrobe”, where instead of purchasing new items, customers can enhance the value of their existing investments or sell them back to the store for Selfridges credit.

To assist visitors in navigating their choices, stockbrokers are available to provide guidance on keeping, reselling, upcycling, or restoring products. The Stock Market also facilitates connections with participating brands such as SOJO, SneakersER, The Handbag Clinic, and Vintage Threads.

SOJO, founded in 2021, specializes in repairs and alterations. Customers can drop off their items for repairs and receive a 20-minute consultation with SOJO experts to discuss their tailoring needs. Services offered by SOJO include shortening and lengthening items, waist cinching, upsizing, zip replacement, denim patching, and repairing holes in knitwear.

SneakersER offers a booth where visitors can have their shoes valued and sell them back in exchange for store credit. They also provide expert cleaning and restoration services, including lace replacement.

Vintage Threads offers an authentication service for clothing items, providing valuations and potential buybacks for select pieces in exchange for Selfridges store credit. Additionally, they offer upcycling and dyeing services and have a curated collection of vintage pieces available for purchase.

The Handbag Clinic serves as a one-stop shop for luxury bag resale, offering authentication, valuation, and restoration services. Visitors can choose to sell their secondhand luxury bags for Selfridges store credit or browse and purchase from their carefully curated assortment.

The Stock Market at Selfridges’ Corner Shop will remain open until June 10, providing customers with an interactive and sustainable shopping experience. Through the promotion of circularity and the availability of repair, upcycling, and resale options, Selfridges showcases its dedication to a more environmentally conscious future.
