Selfridges Introduces the ‘Worn Again’ Initiative

Selfridges, the renowned high-end department store, is going above and beyond its commitment to the circular economy with the introduction of its ‘Worn Again’ initiative. This groundbreaking initiative is designed to encourage and promote secondhand and circular shopping through a series of exciting events and collaborations.

One of the standout features of the ‘Worn Again’ initiative is the Reselfridges range, also known as ‘The Edit’. This carefully curated selection of products comes from a global network of resellers and archivists exclusively chosen by Reselfridges. Starting from April to August, customers visiting any of the three Selfridges stores will have access to a diverse range of secondhand clothing, accessories, and even furniture.

To make secondhand shopping even more appealing, Selfridges has teamed up with renowned designer Marine Serre for a captivating pop-up store at their flagship location in London. This unique collaboration not only showcases Serre’s innovative approach to regeneration but also highlights the immense potential of upcycled fashion.

Throughout the duration of the ‘Worn Again’ initiative, Selfridges is introducing various events and services to further promote circular shopping. These include the Swap Shop series, where customers can exchange their pre-loved items for something new, as well as a Rent-to-Buy service that allows customers to purchase former rental items after trying them out. Additionally, Selfridges is hosting a charity ‘Women for Women’ Car Boot Sale in their car park, an outdoor furniture fair, and even a reimagined stock market where customers can have their older pieces appraised, exchanged, or repaired.

Adding to the comprehensive range of clothing and accessories, the ‘Worn Again’ initiative also emphasizes secondhand furniture. Through a partnership with Vinterior, a well-known vintage furniture retailer, Selfridges is providing customers with a truly unique in-store shopping experience. From April to August, customers can explore a wide selection of “one-of-a-kind pieces, mid-century styles, and iconic pieces,” including coveted items like a mushroom lamp and Togo sofas.

As part of this forward-thinking initiative, luxury accessories brand Coach has launched its sub-brand Coachtopia. Selfridges is hosting an exclusive pop-up store where customers can shop for 18 exclusive secondhand Coach Ergo styles until 21st May.

With its vision for the future, Selfridges aims to have 45% of its transactions made through its Rental, Repair, and Recycle scheme by 2030. The ‘Worn Again’ initiative is a significant stride towards achieving this goal and demonstrates the increasing appeal of the circular economy, especially among younger consumers.
