Second Edition of ‘Les De(ux)mains du luxe’ Event by Comité Colbert

Hermès, Cartier, and LVMH are among the prestigious companies participating in the second edition of the event “Les De(ux)mains du luxe” organized by the Comité Colbert in Paris. The purpose of this event is to introduce young generations to the various professions and training opportunities available in the luxury sector, which is a significant and growing market in France.

With the French luxury industry expected to reach a market value of nearly 380 billion euros by the end of the year, the country holds a prominent position in the global luxury market. The industry directly and indirectly employs over one million people, making it crucial to attract young talent to sustain its growth. However, the retirement of baby boomers, limited awareness of the diverse professions within the sector, and increasing demand for luxury products and services pose challenges to maintaining a skilled workforce.

The luxury sector encompasses a wide range of industries such as fashion, jewelry, watchmaking, lifestyle, hospitality, and catering. These industries are actively seeking to enhance their visibility among the younger generation, who are currently making career choices.

In 2022, the Comité Colbert initiated the “Les De(ux)mains du luxe” program to inspire students, particularly those in middle school, to consider careers in the luxury industry. This year, the event has expanded, with the participation of 30 members of the committee, and is taking place at Station F in eastern Paris. Alongside renowned names like LVMH, Hermès, Cartier, and Chanel’s 19M, prestigious jewelers including Boucheron and Van Cleef & Arpels, as well as luxury hotels like Ritz Paris and Plaza Athénée, are participating in the program.

The program spans four days and offers students the opportunity to explore various crafts through thematic conferences and practical workshops. These activities include sewing, jewelry-making, embroidery, gilding, table setting, and interactions with skilled artisans and training organizations such as Meilleurs Ouvriers de France (Best Craftsmen in France) and Meilleurs Apprentis de France (Best Apprentices in France).

To increase its reach and engage with the target audience more effectively, the Comité Colbert has partnered with TikTok for this year’s event. The social media platform, popular among luxury recruiters, has launched a challenge with a 5,000 euro prize. The challenge invites young enthusiasts to showcase their journey and favorite skills related to the luxury industry in a 10-second video.

“Les De(ux)mains du luxe” will take place on December 14th and 15th, 2023 (exclusive to students), as well as December 16th and 17th, 2023, at Station F in Paris. More details about the event and registration can be found on the dedicated page.
