Sarah Burton’s Breathtaking Alexander McQueen Spring 2020 Collection

Sarah Burton brought Alexander McQueen back to its origins with a breathtaking fashion collection for Spring 2020. The show highlighted the essence of the fashion house through its Gothic undertones, British tailoring, tough elegance, heraldic grandeur, and dreamlike femininity. The collaboration between the dedicated atelier and the creative director resulted in a truly spectacular showcase.

Opening the show was a reimagined version of a Winter 2000 “Eshu” dress created by Lee McQueen, now crafted in moonlit ivory linen with dramatic leg of mutton sleeves and modern galosh boots. A standout piece was a sleek Savile Row peg-legged pantsuit made from Ulster linen, a subtle nod to the founder’s Celtic heritage amidst the current backdrop of Brexit uncertainties. Additionally, a striking square-necked gown in beetled linen with a medieval leather belt and innovative waxed-back hair styling made a memorable impact on the runway.

The collection was impeccably accessorized with antique gold necklaces, intricately braided chokers, and statement rings adorned with pearl droplets, perfectly enhancing each ensemble. With 42 flawless looks ranging from black leather bustier dresses paired with delicate white lace to an Irish linen dress intricately embroidered with whimsical dancing girls, the show was a captivating display of craftsmanship and artistry.

The London Contemporary Orchestra, dressed in McQueen attire, provided a spellbinding musical accompaniment that added an ethereal touch to the overall atmosphere. The show reached its pinnacle with ethereal organza gauze creations and a mesmerizing oyster dress crafted from a blend of tulle, organza, and jacquard, showcasing Burton’s dedication to sustainability. Each piece in the collection was meticulously detailed and told its own unique story, reflecting Burton’s emphasis on the importance of collaboration and creating beauty with intention and care.

The poignant moment when Burton graciously shared her bow with her team onstage was met with resounding cheers, marking a special and heartwarming tribute to the collaborative spirit behind the collection. Sarah Burton’s creative vision truly shone through in the Alexander McQueen Spring 2020 collection, capturing the essence of the iconic fashion house in a mesmerizing and unforgettable showcase.
