Sandersons Boutique Department Stores Reports Record-Breaking Christmas Sales

Sandersons Boutique Department Stores, an independent retailer, has defied the odds by reporting record-breaking Christmas sales. Despite the challenges faced by the industry in recent years, the chain experienced strong trading in November and December, with two-month retail sales skyrocketing from £564,000 in 2016 to nearly £7 million in 2023. Moreover, Christmas shopping sales witnessed a 5% increase compared to the previous year, both in-store and online.

Sandersons, which was founded in Sheffield in 2016, currently operates stores in Stroud, the Cotswolds, and Morpeth in Northumberland. The company attributes its success to the continued demand for luxury brands in a boutique store environment. This highlights the fact that customers still value the unique experience of shopping in a boutique setting, despite the convenience of online retail.

Mark Dransfield, co-founder of Sandersons Boutique, expressed his satisfaction with the Christmas sales and footfall figures. He acknowledged that while online sales have seen significant growth, there has been a slight decrease in spending in physical stores. However, Dransfield noted that some customers are still willing to invest in high-end products, indicating a strong desire for luxury items. To cater to this demand, Sandersons recently partnered with Xupes, a company that offers pre-loved handbags from renowned brands such as Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Hermès, and Gucci. The introduction of Xupes’ range in Sandersons’ Sheffield store has received an overwhelmingly positive response from customers.

Furthermore, Sandersons has expanded its womenswear collection by introducing Weekend Max Mara and Marella in 2023. In addition to that, the men’s fashion line-up has been enhanced with the inclusion of Hackett and Boss. These strategic partnerships and expansions demonstrate Sandersons’ commitment to staying relevant and meeting the evolving preferences of its customers.

Despite the challenging climate for independent department stores, Sandersons Boutique Department Stores has proven its resilience and ability to thrive. By continuing to offer luxury brands in a boutique setting and adapting to changing consumer trends, the company has solidified its position in the retail industry. With their successful Christmas performance and strategic partnerships, Sandersons is well-poised to continue its journey of growth and success.
