Saint Laurent Launches Film Production Venture

Luxury brand Saint Laurent has made a groundbreaking move by entering the film production industry with the launch of Saint Laurent Productions. This new venture will provide a platform for talented filmmakers who have inspired the brand throughout the years. As part of its debut, Saint Laurent Productions will be participating in the official selection of the 76th Cannes Film Festival, showcasing Pedro Almodóvar’s “Strange Way of Life” starring Ethan Hawke and Pedro Pascal. This move distinguishes Saint Laurent as the first luxury brand to engage in film production as part of its activities.

The establishment of Saint Laurent Productions is a testament to the brand’s dedication to artistic expression and collaboration with visionary filmmakers. The company has already lined up projects with renowned directors such as David Cronenberg and Paolo Sorrentino. By working with such esteemed filmmakers, Saint Laurent aims to further strengthen its position as a brand that celebrates and supports creative endeavors.

Anthony Vaccarello, the creative director of Saint Laurent since 2016, expressed admiration for these directors and acknowledged their influence on his own creative journey. Additionally, Vaccarello will design the costumes for the films produced by Saint Laurent Productions, underscoring the brand’s involvement in the filmmaking process.

Regarding the financial investment in these projects, Saint Laurent has not disclosed the exact amount. However, its parent company, Kering, already has a presence in the film industry through initiatives like Women in Motion. For the past nine years, this program has dedicated itself to celebrating and highlighting women in cinema. This year’s prestigious award will be presented to Michelle Yeoh, an Oscar-winning actress.

The expansion of Saint Laurent into film production marks a significant milestone for the brand and the fashion industry as a whole. It showcases the potential of the intersection between fashion and film, providing an opportunity for luxury brands to contribute to the art form. As Saint Laurent Productions makes its debut at the renowned Cannes Film Festival, it is poised to leave a lasting impact on the industry and pave the way for future collaborations and creative endeavors.
