Sabyasachi Unveils Massive New Store in Mumbai

Renowned Indian designer, Sabyasachi, recently unveiled his massive new store in Mumbai, which spans over 25,000 square feet. The opening party for the store was nothing short of extravagant, attended by 220 guests including local celebrities, clients, international retailers, and press. The event showcased the brand’s dedication to providing a sensory experience and gave a sneak peek into its future endeavors.

Sabyasachi Mukherjee, the designer himself, explained that the decision to open a larger space in Mumbai was primarily practical. The growing categories of handbags and jewelry required a dedicated area, and Sabyasachi wanted to entice people to step out of their comfort zones and experience the magic of a physical retail store.

Located in the Horniman Circle neighborhood, the store is a luxurious and elegant haven. Upon entering, guests were met with a grand hallway adorned with chandeliers, mirrors, and oversized vases. The interior design seamlessly incorporates traditional Indian motifs with influences from the Colonial-era and Europe, resulting in a unique aesthetic. Each section of the store showcases curated collections of antiques, traditional textiles, paintings, and other exquisite items.

Sabyasachi has his sights set on expanding into the realms of home decor and hospitality. Although the store currently does not offer these categories, he plans to introduce them in the future, which will include dinnerware, ceramics, fabrics, and carpets. In addition, the designer hinted at the upcoming launch of a genderless fragrance and a complete beauty line.

The store’s second floor is dedicated to the brand’s extensive jewelry collections, featuring a blend of traditional Indian styles and modern interpretations. The third floor is solely dedicated to the expanding range of leather goods. Notably, guests including Christian Louboutin and Linda Fargo were treated to a sumptuous feast on this floor, further immersing them in the opulence of the store.

Christian Louboutin, who attended both as a guest and a collaborator, expressed admiration for Sabyasachi and his designs. Linda Fargo, the Senior Vice President of Bergdorf Goodman’s fashion department, praised the brand’s ability to bridge the gap between East and West and suggested the possibility of expanding its presence in the U.S.

The brand’s partnership with Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Ltd, a prominent Indian luxury conglomerate, further supports its growth. With four freestanding Sabyasachi locations, including the newly opened Mumbai store and the U.S. store launched in October, the brand is actively exploring future locations in London, the Middle East, Indonesia, and Singapore.

As Sabyasachi expands its offerings and ventures into new markets, the designer remains committed to his unique aesthetic. He aims to showcase the fusion of Indian and Western influences and challenge traditional gender norms in the fashion industry. The brand relies heavily on word-of-mouth and customer satisfaction as part of its advertising strategy.

Sabyasachi’s new Mumbai store not only offers a luxurious shopping experience but also represents the brand’s success and ambition. It serves as a symbol of the designer’s vision to bring Indian fashion and craftsmanship to the global stage.
