Rumors swirl over potential appointment of former Debenhams chairman as Landsec chairman

Rumors are swirling that Sir Ian Cheshire, the former chairman of Debenhams, may be the top candidate for the chairman position at Landsec, the owner of Bluewater shopping mall. This news comes as Landsec is in search of a replacement for Cressida Hogg, who will be taking on the chairman role at defense giant BAE Systems.

Landsec holds a significant stake in Bluewater and is responsible for its day-to-day operations. Alongside this, the company owns other notable retail properties including St David’s in Cardiff and Braintree Village in Essex. Additionally, they are the proud owners of the famous Piccadilly Lights advertising screens in London’s Piccadilly Circus.

With his impressive background in retail, Sir Ian Cheshire brings a wealth of experience to the table. He has previously chaired Debenhams and has held leadership positions at Kingfisher, the parent company of DIY retail brand B&Q. If the reports turn out to be true, Sir Ian Cheshire would be joining Landsec during a particularly challenging period for the retail industry. The company is currently navigating the aftermath of the pandemic and working on reshaping their portfolio.

The potential appointment of Sir Ian Cheshire as chairman would mean that he would be working closely with CEO Mark Allan. Allan has been focused on adapting and strengthening Landsec’s portfolio in response to the ever-evolving retail landscape. An official announcement regarding the appointment is anticipated to be made later this month.
