Rochas Ends Collaboration with Charles de Vilmorin

Parisian luxury house Rochas and French designer Charles de Vilmorin have mutually decided to end their collaboration after a two-year stint. Owned by Interparfums, Rochas did not renew its contract with de Vilmorin, who had been overseeing the women’s ready-to-wear collections since 2021. The departure of de Vilmorin was officially confirmed by Rochas on March 31, 2023, with the company stating that more details about its future plans will be disclosed later on.

The decision to part ways does not come as a surprise, as de Vilmorin’s flamboyant and whimsical style does not align with Rochas’ renowned hyper-feminine and elegant aesthetic. His innovative and voluminous creations stood in contrast to the sophisticated designs of his predecessor, Alessandro Dell’Acqua.

Despite the relatively short period of collaboration, de Vilmorin has achieved notable success in the fashion industry at the early age of 26. His journey began during the spring 2020 lockdown, when he gained recognition through social media for his collection of vibrant bombers. In January 2021, he made his debut at Haute Couture Week, and only a month later, he was entrusted with the creative direction of Rochas.

Interparfums CEO Philippe Benancin expressed gratitude to de Vilmorin for his contributions to the Rochas legacy, acknowledging that his creative vision will leave a lasting impact on the brand. Interparfums acquired Rochas in 2015 and extended its partnership for women’s ready-to-wear with Italian firm Him Co SPA in 2021. Prior to this, the ready-to-wear collections were managed by Onward Luxury Group through a license agreement since 2008. Over the years, Rochas has been led by esteemed designers such as Olivier Theyskens, Marco Zanini, Alessandro Dell’Acqua, and most recently, Charles de Vilmorin.
