Rising Demand for Eco-Friendly Fashion

According to Lyst, the leading global fashion search platform, there has been a significant increase in searches for eco-friendly and sustainable fashion products. The data shows that searches for ‘vegan fashion’ have surged by 119% since October, reaching over 9.3 million social media impressions. This trend is indicative of a growing interest in ethically-produced clothing, with searches for sustainable fashion overall up by 66% compared to last year.

Moreover, searches for terms like ‘econyl’ and ‘ethical brands’ have also been on the rise, showcasing a broader appreciation for sustainable practices in the fashion industry. The demand for ‘organic cotton’ products has grown by 16%, while searches for ‘sustainable denim’ have experienced an impressive 187% increase. This shift towards environmentally-friendly fashion choices is further evidenced by the efforts of major brands and retailers investing in sustainable options, ranging from high-end labels to more accessible brands such as Primark’s eco jeans line.

With a database that includes over 100 million actual searches, Lyst plays a crucial role in tracking and predicting fashion trends. The platform, used by 80 million shoppers worldwide, estimates that sustainability will be a key factor in 10% of all fashion purchases by next year. This growing consumer demand for eco-friendly and ethical products is expected to drive brands to adapt their offerings to align with these values.

Collaborations between sustainable and traditional brands have proven successful in generating interest in eco-friendly products. For example, searches for Adidas Stan Smith trainers saw a 21% increase following the release of Stella McCartney’s vegetarian Stan Smiths. Luxury resale sites have also experienced a significant uptick in traffic, with a 329% growth reported in the last year. Pre-owned brands like Chanel, Louis Vuitton, and Gucci are particularly popular among environmentally-conscious consumers willing to invest between $500 and $1,000 in secondhand purchases.

Lyst’s data underscores a growing consumer awareness and demand for sustainable fashion options, with a heightened focus on eco-friendly materials and ethical production methods. Brands that prioritize sustainability and embrace the circular economy model are poised to capture the attention of this environmentally-conscious market.
