Just a few days before Paris Fashion Week and less than a year after the passing of fashion icon Karl Lagerfeld, the Royal Monceau hotel in Paris is paying tribute to the master by hosting an exceptional retrospective. Titled “The Chanel Shows,” this retrospective showcases a decade of Chanel fashion shows through a series of large-format images. The tribute aims to make Lagerfeld’s work more accessible to the general public, offering a free and open exhibition that reveals the runways and behind-the-scenes of these legendary fashion shows.
Curated by Simon Procter, a British artist and photographer who was a close collaborator of Lagerfeld, the exhibition presents over ten years of intimate and meticulously crafted photographs. Lagerfeld can be seen at the heart of the exceptional settings he created for Chanel, including beach scenes, airport runways, and even a prestigious space station. Accompanying the photographs are unique pieces created by Procter, such as drawings and busts, that pay homage to the legendary fashion designer.
The Royal Monceau hotel is hosting this photographic exhibition until October, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in Lagerfeld’s world of high fashion. In addition to the exhibition, a book titled “The Chanel Shows” has been published by Rizzoli Editions, featuring the same images showcased in the retrospective. Since its release on September 10th, the book has already sold out and undergone a second printing due to popular demand.
